Pilates is for everyone, whatever your age, body shape or fitness. So if you are new to Pilates, experienced, or somewhere inbetween, you are in the right place.
Joseph Pilates, the founder of Pilates, said:
If at the age of 30 you are stiff and out of shape, you are old. If at 60 you are supple and strong, then you are young.
Well, he is a straight-talker, Joseph Pilates, but I think he is definitely on to something there….
Regular Pilates classes will enable you to look – and feel – your very best.
What’s more, because they give you such a wonderful sense of satisfaction and well-being, you’re probably going to want to do Pilates for the rest of your life.
Benefits of Pilates:
If you’re looking for…
- a healthier back
- a stronger, more supportive core
- a more toned, mobile and flexible body
- better posture, fitness and general wellbeing
- reduced stress
- better balance and co-ordination
… you will find it all here.
My Pilates mat classes
My Pilates mat classes tend to be slow and challenging all at the same time. They’re ‘slow’ so that we can focus on good alignment and elongation, and they become increasingly challenging as you advance! I’d also hope that my classes are fun and supportive… but really, you will have be the judge of that.
In Pilates mat classes:
- It is your body working against gravity that provides the biggest challenge.
- Exercises are mostly performed lying or sitting down on the mat, flowing from one to another.
- The overall mind/body workout leaves you re-invigorated, relaxed and centred.
- Focus and body awareness replace the quick, jerky movements of other exercise regimes.
- Grace of motion is emphasized over speed.
- Muscles are developed to compliment good posture, suppleness, and to restore the body to balance.
- Exercises integrate the whole body to re-educate and restore it to optimum muscular and skeletal function.
Sting and I have been practising Pilates for two years now, and we have found that the benefits are countless. As yoga practitioners of fifteen years, we considered ourselves fit and strong, but Pilates has given us a completely different kind of fitness. Taught by Pilates Foundation-trained teachers, we have learned Joseph Pilates’ precise techniques for building core strength in the body, which leads to better posture, a stronger back, improved co-ordination, more stamina and strength without building muscle bulk. Pilates is a wonderful workout that gives you both energy and grace.

Important Safety Notice
Pilates is ideal for all levels of fitness but you need to find the right class for your needs. If you have specific injuries or medical conditions, you will first need to check with your GP that Pilates is suitable for you. In some cases, a private mat class may be a better way to start as you will receive individual attention so exercises can be tailored specifically for your needs.
Please always let me know in advance if you have any injuries or medical conditions that might affect your ability to exercise. Please also inform me if you are pregnant or have recently had a baby as the class may not be suitable for you at this time.
My Passion for Pilates
I have been teaching Pilates for over fourteen years, both apparatus and mat classes. In fact, I am so passionate about Pilates, I served on the board of The Pilates Foundation (international Pilates organisation for teachers and training) as Vice Chairman for three years, and I have also written a Pilates book, entitled ‘The Pilates Plan’ which has been published in seven languages worldwide.
Pilates has allowed me to discover a way of moving that I now apply to everything I do, to keep me strong, mobile, energised and feeling good.
